Fusing with float 24th Jan – first firing
Some before and after shots of the lovely pieces you made. You were a delight to work with and lovely to meet you all. Also a shot of the kiln, fully laden before I hit the go button – which I now have :-). Pictures of your lovely pieces to follow once they are fired and slumped.
Fusing with Float Jan 10th
Another lovely group last weekend and some lovely work, I’ll post the before and afters with the metals later today, meanwhile enjoy what you’ve made although the pics don’t so them justice!
Fusing with Float, 19th July
Wow, what can we say, there are some truly amazing pieces come out of the kiln this week. The bowls are slumping now but again, wow! A great pleasure working with you all and we hope to see some of you on another of our courses soon.
Final pieces all done
Some lovely stuff here, great to meet you all and in some cases, see you again!
Some bowls from 27th April float course
Look at these!
Great looking pieces! If you look carefully you can even see Felix, our other cat, in the background of one of the shots – we have some ducks in the water on the other side of the fence and Felix is looking after them (or so he tells us).
Quick photos after first firing
These are looking great and we are now ready to start firing bowls – I am very excited about seeing the results!
Apologies for the last post for some reason it was not visible until Monday. However I am taking advantage of the fabulous weather today and am about to put some photos up of the flat pieces against the light rather than the kiln so please keep checking in here. Hope you are having a fabulous week folks.
Final pieces fired from 16th March 2013 float course
Wow I am overjoyed at these folks, they are all sparkling and the glass is absolutely transparent. If you are new to Glass Jewels you are probably thinking what is she on about! The funny thing about float glass is yes it pays to create a strong design and make each piece thoughtfully but the thing that can make the most difference is keeping your glass clean, otherwise a cloudy scum forms called devitrification – not pretty! In a way I think it is quite cheering that such a simple thing can help you make wonderful glass and these smashing examples here showcase great design too.
I had fun photographing these as it gave me a chance to really admire them. Amongst others I really like the written letter in the glass that Andrea made as it is so different and shows how effective enamel pen can be. We were really inspired working with you all and the good news is that Vince is getting really near to finalising his design of the recycled glass fusing course – think we might need to come up with a snappier name, please let us know if you think of one. Also several of you asked about an intermediate course and we are busy re-writing that too. It was lovely to meet you all and I hope you have fun seeing your lovely pieces in real life. Please remember we would love feedback and any suggestions for future courses.
A quick photo of the kiln before firing 16/3/13 course
We are just getting ready to do the first firing from yesterday. I love taking these ‘before’ shots as it is a great reminder of how much fused float glass can change during the firing process. Some of these pieces have been made as bowls so once fused from this firing they will be placed into bowl moulds and fired at a lower temperature to form the bowl shapes.
