Look at these intermediate course pieces!

I haven’t said much about the course on Saturday yet, as for the third week running it was fabulous fun and amazing to watch you all turn out work in such different ways. You were all very tolerant of the loose structure of the day and Vince says he thinks it worked. If any of you are reading this and you have a spare moment please can you leave a comment below.

 

We covered lots of ground from new materials and techniques through to strengthening designs. My main thought is that we needed more time and at some point this will maybe become a 2 day course.

 

Here are some of the fired pieces – Alison, your piece is a stunner and I haven’t managed to capture that as well as I would have liked. Amelia, we want to be really careful with your pieces so they will be fired on their own later in the week. Fiona, if you are reading this can you email the photo of your Alpacas to us please? We must take you up on your offer and come and meet them some day soon, perhaps when they have babies in the summer. Also can you let Vince have details about your kiln.

I am back

I have been away on Bristol for 3 days and my poor iPhone couldn’t pick up enough signal to post the bowl photos. I am sorry these are up late but Vince tells me all your work has been collected. Will be back tomorrow to document our first intermediate float course – exciting

Sarah, I agree with you, Megan’s work definitely have the touch of an artist. I have my eye on the smaller piece, with the circles in. I have posted a picture of Mary’s piece, before firing, with the stencil beside it but still no clues as to how she got the stencil off, magic?

Becki, I am so sorry I can’t believe I put your piece up the wrong way. I will take another photo tomorrow. Please look out for next post as I am just about to take a photograph of your bowl and it is a real beauty.

Fired glass from Saturday’s party (15/1/11)

You are right, I am very lucky and have some really fab friends. We had a great day, & yes the fun carried on all afternoon & evening…I’ve never eaten so much cake!
And aren’t my friends talented as well. I love all of these pieces….great tree Ruth, love the butterflies Shirley, how did you get that paper template off your lovely piece Mary?
there’s no disguising that you are an artist Megan….you had better watch out…I might pinch one of your pieces! Same goes for Ali & Becky…I can’t wait to see them in the flesh (or should I say ‘in the glass’).
Thanks too to Sue & Vince for a great day, yummy soup & CAKE!!!! oh & the bucks fizz works wonders for one’s creativity!
Hope I’ll come back again soon, but sadly not this weekend.

Thanks to all of you for a great day, it was lovely spending the day with you all, those I knew and those I got to know. Cake works wonders for getting to knw people! I’m so unarty, but loved creating my glass pieces and am pleased with the results (although it has been photographed upside down with ‘seagulls’ at the bottom!). Thank you to Sue and Vince for all your guidances, I learned loads and totally enjoyed the day.

Sarah’s surprise birthday party

We had a great time today combining glass making, eating birthday cake and drinking Bucks Fizz. Below are the before and after photos of the first pieces made this morning and fired during the day. From top left to right: Ruth, Becky & Shirley, in the middle: Mary & Megan and bottom Ali & Sarah . I am hoping to post more pics of fired pieces on Tuesday evening after the firing, in fact Vince is loading the kiln as I type.

 

The story behind today is that Sarah came on a course with us last year and really enjoyed it and told all her mates about it and so unbeknownst to her they arranged a party for today, her birthday was last Tuesday.  Apparently they told Sarah they would pick her up at 9.30 and she had no idea where she was heading until the car turned into our road. Okay secretly (well not so secret now) I would love it if my friends had organised this for me – although I guess ideally it would need to be in another craft area.  Seriously how lucky is Sarah she has some fab friends and we were lucky enough to join the fun which judging by the whispering has continued into this evening.  We really enjoyed meeting you all.
